More of the Same Different Stuff

Hello again, everyone. I have advanced in my goals of getting assistance, but am still being a nomad in the land of zero internets.

This past week has been a bit different, as I've cooked and actually helped care for someone. This person was run into by an SUV. The person driving the SUV was talking on the cellphone and speeding. She didn't see my new friend until he was on her windshield. He could have died, but is now fighting life from a wheelchair.

I've never really helped take care of anyone before, so I'm a newb that needs a little in the way of experience. I have cooked some meals, which in itself is a miracle because I'm usually a tv dinner kind of guy. Home made meals taste way better(except for my mashed potatoes, which ended up a potato flavored goop).

We've talked about lots of things, as he cannot move much at all and we have nothing but time to watch tv and shoot the breeze. One of the things we talked about was the old addage: "What doesn't kill you makes you stronger".

I told him that I think that saying is false and needs to be re-written in several different ways.

We came up with these:

What doesn't kill you-

-might just do the job next time.

-can make you wish it had.

-probably won't feel very pleasing.

-can become a very interesting made-for-tv movie.

-can sure as hell make you paralyzed.

So, for the next while, I'll be helping care for my new friend. I'll try and make time during the week to visit and comment your b-logs. Thanks for being so patient and understanding, you guys are the best!

I'll leave you with yet another graphic that I've made. This one is cool to me because of the asymmetric aspect of the elements. I hope you enjoy it and have a wonderful week!

  1. Welcome back! I have taken care of so many people at times I have just been exhausted of it, but it is very good of you to do that and hope your friend can get to healing pretty quick.

Great graphic and good luck with everything!

  2. Sorry to hear about your friend. Was the SUV driver cited? I know that in many states driving while talking/texting on a cell phone is illegal.

I once saw a horrible image of a 16-year-old girl who was texting and driving when she hit a toll booth. What a mess!

I am betting that your cooking will improve over time. lol I too am a TV dinner guy because it is hard to cook for one person. However, cooking for two is easier as you can actually make a real meal and store leftovers for reheating.

Keep us apprised of what's going on.

    Peace.

  3. LOL probably won't feel very pleasing gets my vote. Sucks about your friend though, stupid people and talking on their cell phones. Caring for someone can be quite the task, been there. Good luck with the cooking.

  5. i wrote a blog post called, That Which doesn't Kill You Makes You realize How Old You Are

I've got a friend that caught a rare blood disorder that put him in a coma for a few months and eventually cost him his feet. I have been taking care of him for years. It is difficult, but also very rewarding. We spend a lot of time just talking.

  6. I think you're an excellent friend and though it might seem like a long way back to recovery for your friend, he will come out a stronger man with a great friend to hold on to. You know? What doesn't kill you also makes you realize you are much tougher than you thought and how many good people is standing next to you.

Best of luck for both of you! Thanks for visiting Diary of a Writer in Progress.

  9. You're a very good friend; not enough people are so considerate. And I like your new versions of that saying. :)

What program do you use to make graphics? That looks pretty awesome!

I'll have to post my mashed taters recipe for you!

  11. How about "could land you in prison" as another end to the line about "whatever doesn't kill you"?

  12. Hey, so kind of you to help out like that! I'm sure that even your potato flavoured poop was appreciated by him. I hope he can make a full recovery - or - if he has lasting harm from the accident, that it can be minimized as much as possible.

(LOL! I just went back up and reread your post... potato flavoured "goop" rather than poop! But I'm going to leave my sentence as is because it's funnier.)

Anyway, take care of yourself too and we'll be here when you're free again. Give my love to your friend with best wishes for a fast recovery.

    And nice picture you posted!

  16. I'm sorry to hear about your friend. Some women are an utter disgrace, aren't they?! That's really good of you to look after him. May such kindness return to you when you need it.

I hate it when mash goes tits-up! Wallpaper paste, eh?! I often get that when I add too much milk or mash it for too long! I can't help it, I like working out my frustrations on potatoes!

I always say: "What does not kill you only makes you stranger!" That's me for sure!

The new graphic looks awesome! Hope the new week is just as good. Heaps of love, dude! :)

  17. What doesn't kill you-

    - might be more effective next time.

    - mustn't have been that fun or exciting.

    - could be things that help you, making this statement really really vauge.

  20. Hey hey, bruddah! Told ya we'd be here when ya got back...

Yes. OH GOD yes. Home-cookin' always trumps any other kind. The one thing I demand, and yes DEMAND, of my mother upon me visiting my parents for Christmas is meatloaf with mashed potatoes.

Oh god, y'know...in a relationship, the dumbest thing you can ever do is think you can cook a particular recipe or two like your significant others' mother or father. It seems like every relationship I get into, they honestly TRY...and yeah, that ain't goin' down.

Just don't. Concede and accept, mom's meatloaf is infallible and you'll never be able to do it.

Her Shepard's Pie, on the other hand...heh heh. Yeah, I got dat.

Dude, dat image! DAT IMAGE! Fuckin' awesome work, bro!

Hmmm. It's good that your friend survived, and has a chance to grow stronger. I won't patronize or take pity, having lost the ability to walk once m'self. All I can say is that the human creature, as an individual, has miraculous adaptive capabilities, y'know? For awhile, I looked at never being able to walk again without crutches or assistance, and I immediately began to make plans on how to live with only one working leg.

So yeah, what doesn't kill you may give something else a chance to kill you tomorrow...but today he's alive, and he's got a good friend to watch his back. That, oh homeboy of mine, is worth more than all the gold in the land.
