See A Void, Fill It

At least that's what I thought I was doing this morning when I set the attributes to an image today. Let me give you a little background info.

I like flying things. I have long since given up the thought of piloting my own craft, (my vision is too terrible to pass for a pilot's license) but I do keep up with a few of the technological advancements in the area.

Which brings me to quadcopters. These things are amazing! I'm sure Da Vinci probably had a super-secret folio of designs that included this four-propellered dream, but no one has yet to come forth with the sketches. His art on the subject is not on google. Tons of others are, though. 335,000 to be more exact.

335,000 images of quadcopters not labeled for reuse

So many images that are unusable here. I was just looking for one or two for an example. I usually forget to restrict my search by license, so I get a huge amount to begin with. That's fine. Let's see what happened when I pared down the search.

Yellow boxes added to show emphasis on search terms and license

And this is what I got:
One image, and it's not even of a quadcopter. Just a list of  bugfixers.

So, Google advanced image search has failed me. I know there are other tools, but I am very stubborn. So stubborn, in fact, that I created my own quadcopter image and set the license to 'Free to Use, Even Commercially", so it can be found instead of the list of bugfixers.

 Here's my quadcopter image:

It qualifies as a quadcopter, but it's got my 'signature style' as well. I'm 99.9% sure it would fly as well.

Organic and machine have melded together to fill a void in the much needed area of useable graphics.

As of the finish of this blogpost, the image is not yet showing up in the search. Maybe it'll take a little while, but I already feel the satisfaction of filling a void with my art.

Have a great day!

  1. Well hopefully it will fill the void in Google. Plus it looks awesome anyway. I would get bionic eyes to fly that.

    2. Google is either messing with me or I am missing a comment from 'R'.

R's comment was : Interesting fail from Google.

My reply is : Yes, quite.

    1. As simple as it is, I still have trouble using it. I tried after seeing this comment and the way I went about it brought me back to the same google results.

  6. LOL I saw one of those in a movie, for a little while. They are amazing, and pretty stable contrary to popular belief. Just depends on the arms' lengths, though. Need to have them balanced.

    1. Yeah. I think I could make mine look like the image and still have it balanced. The secret is in the perspective.

For a minute there, I thought this was going to be a dirty post.
    It wasn't, but that's okay.

  10. I loved that image. it is awesome. I read somewhere, if you want to write a post about menstrual cycle name the post title as "Knocked up and Sex - Period" so that it picked by google and index it in top search.
Anyway I need to read about this quadcopter. I dont know much about this.

    1. Thanks for the compliments! Yes, titles are weighted heavily in search engines, I agree. Sometimes misleading headers give me grief when the content doesn't go along with them. That's the price we pay when so much is riding on the equations that spit out results.

  12. That was just rock bottom, to take you from hundreds of thousands of images to "fix bugs". Just not right.

But love your creativity and imagination at being a problem solver, creating your own quadrocopter pic and putting it out there for us.

  13. I didn't know there was an advanced search on google - although I suppose I should have guessed. Your graphics is great and I'm going to copy your idea. From now on, whenever I'm searching for something and can't find it, I'm just going to create the article/image myself so that there's something to find. Rather genius of you! lol Thanks!

  15. Most of what I know about aviation I learned from the movie "Airplane." So, I am not really one to comment. And yes, not that I know the secrets of google, but the image results seem to take quite a bit longer to show up than just regular search results. But then again, everything I know about the internet I learned from the movie "The Social Network." So, I am not really one to comment.
